Lokah is a Sanscrit word meaning location, found in the mantra Lokah Samastah Suhkino Bhavantu~May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may my own thoughts, words, and actions contribute to that happiness and freedom for all.
To me, this word and mantra are timeless and limitless and the essence of my practice and my teaching. Lokah reminds me to pause and check in physically, emotionally, and mentally. From there, I ponder the path and choose more wisely my next step. What I now know is that what I want for myself is what I want for all beings~peace and happiness. LYS is where we co-create the space for growth and intention to "locate" ourselves and choose how to be within and without.
My yoga journey began in my early 20's in Asheville, NC when a friend took me to my 1st class. I was immediately connected and plugged into better health. I loved the practice and how it helped my feel strong, balanced, and confident. My practice and my teaching have morphed so much over the years; I currently teach a slower and well propped class because that's what my body needs.
Space has multiple connotations in the LYS name. It refers to the physical space where we practice, whether that is in person or virtual. It refers to the practitioner's physical body and how to care for it (enter side hustle Beautycounter) as well as the energetic inner body.
Space also refers to the cosmos and our location within it. I am intrigued by the vastness of the universe and all that is being discovered.
My intention with LYS is to provide a safe space and the inspiration in which to dive deep. Thank you for coming along on the journey.
Namaste
